I’ve got big hands and simply couldn’t type on the majority of netbooks out there. I wanted to love my Asus but there were a lot of issues and the keyboard was a deal breaker… absolute junk. I have a XPS 1640 as my main laptop so I did some reading and thought I’d give this one a try. It’s not that attractive but I needed function over form. This little guy delivers on every level. I upgraded it to Win7 AFTER I added RAM. I installed Office 2010, chrome, Nortel VPN for work and Sprint Air Card software. I love the fact it has 3 USB ports. I’m getting about 5 solid hours out of the battery and I don’t do any every saving nonsense – I often do the opposite. I will mention the battery takes forever to charge if you are on it. (so did my Asus though) The aesthetics will grow on you.

ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-EU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook – 4 Hour Battery Life

After reading some of the reviews that were left to rate this machine, I could not help jumping in to add my 2 cents. I will try to be concise and to the point:

This Asus Eee is superior to many other netbooks in this category, namely Toshiba NB205-N325BN (that I own and planning to sell) in all aspects except perhaps a battery life. I have just bought this Asus model as a gift to my relative and have been able to test it while setting this up.

Asus Eee has these Key Advantages:

* Great textured mouse pad, much better than one found on Toshiba
* Speaker is also much louder
* Performance is not as lagging as Toshiba’s
* Asus has Windows XP! This is really huge! Windows 7 Starter should never have been on netbooks to begin with. W7 Starter is pure trash with 90% limitations and is very, very slow despite my attempts to optimize the kernel, etc. Never buy a netbook with W7 Starter – you will regret it!
* Better Keyboard than on most netbooks
* Non-reflective active TFT screen
* Wireless LAN card N type vs B/G type still found on Toshiba
* Very light weight

Having stated all these facts, I am going to sell my Toshiba netbook and buy this Asus gem instead.

So before I bought this netbook, I looked @ all the reviews and they were positive. I had just returned my macbook pro to my school because I couldn’t keep it any longer. I wanted to buy a laptop for a good price with hopes that it would be just as good as the macbook. well, i came across the asus eee pc and once i recieved it, the screen was bigger than i thought! and the keyboard is amazing! You can take pics, record, make movies just as good as imovie with windows updated movie maker, i could record songs once i downloaded audacity and i have itunes.

this laptop is for college so it’s not heavy, completely portable, and kinda cute! The only problem I had is that 2 days after I received it, it started making this disgusting staticy noise! It was embarrassing, so I called the Asus company and now i’m waiting for them to stop the noise, other than that this netbook is pretty darn good

    I bought the white color. It came with xandros linux and the UI was choppy so I downloaded Ubuntu Netbook edition and installed a 2GB memory module. Ubuntu is very impressive on this netbook.

    The battery really does last just as long as they say it does. I love the Solid State Drive because it makes booting Linux real fast. I would say, its much better than the Windows version.

    Forget about tech support and forget about anything asus. They just don’t care. I could not get a hold of them and their web site is terrible.

    ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1201PN-PU17-BK 12.1-Inch Netbook – Black

    PROS: Very compact and light-weight. Every standard feature desirable in a netbook, plus a few. Nice styling. Responsive, easy to type keyboard. Good price point. The dotted style multi-touch trackpad is surprisingly good. Distinctive Iron Man-esque styling.

    CONS: Non-universal power adapter, not enough juice for gaming. HD Netflix Watch it Now unwatchable. No evidence that the Nvidia ION 2 chip is onboard, appears to be the original ION.

    OVERALL: This machine blurs the line between netbooks and laptops, and at this price and size that’s a very good thing. It is great for simple tasks like email, web, Putty, and OpenOffice. I would definitely recommend it for those applications. I would not recommend it for heavy duty multimedia or gaming, as it tends to struggle with hi resolution video or anything graphics intensive.

    I got this computer for work, something I could slip into my briefcase and carry everywhere to take notes at meetings and have my schedule with me at all times. For these applications, this machine is perfect.

    I haven’t used Windows 7 before, and I actually like it a lot. I’ve been using Mac OS X for years and I have to say W7 is at least on par if not better. There are a number of small features that work really well and don’t get in the way. It’s nice that this computer has the full Home Premium version and not the Starter version that I assume is somehow stripped down for typical netbooks.

    The fact that the ION 2 chip is not in this laptop is a bit disappointing. I probably would have purchased the older version (1201N, has a dual core Atom 330 processor) if I had known that. But for my purposes it really doesn’t matter. I have a dedicated gaming PC at home for that stuff.

    I highly recommend this machine for students and people who’s work takes them to multiple locations. It is light and easy to carry around and has enough computing power and battery life to get you through the day. Check out the 1201N if you think you need more processing power, but really the differences are going to be minimal.

    ASUS Eee PC 1015PED-PU17-BU 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook – Up to 13 Hours of Battery Life

    I chose this netbook primarily because of its weight (2.8 lbs without charger), power (speedy!), battery life (over 13 hours), SD card slot, built-in Webcam and ability to use 500GB of Asus’ WebStorage. We plan to use this on an upcoming trip, uploading pictures along the way . . . and I think it will be great!

    After charging it for 8+ hours, I watched it run through its set-up and was thrilled when there was no noticeable noise from the unit. (See previous review.) Also, the 1015-PED was able to access our home wireless network without a hitch. I then took it to the local library to see how it did and again, there was no problem with access or response time. Only when I tried to its “Express Gate” (essentially a Windows bypass meant to boot up frequently used apps very quickly without starting the Windows 7 OS) did I notice that I could not access the internet. It seems it was looking for a LAN instead of my home network — so I need to check that function out more. I rebooted with Windows using the top right power button, turned the LAN off and it found my network again.

    I really like the keyboard, the variety of function keys, the large touch pad and the ability to scroll up or down using two fingers (a la Macs). The screen has great color and is easy to see inside and out. Frankly, I think the response time beats my 4-year old MacBook Pro on my home Linksys Wireless-N Router. I have not installed the second GB of DDR3 RAM — but I think I’ll wait until I see a successful review on that one.

    All in all, I think this is a terrific little netbook and am thrilled with the purchase!

    I chose this netbook primarily because of its weight (2.8 lbs without charger), power (speedy!), battery life (over 13 hours), SD card slot, built-in Webcam and ability to use 500GB of Asus’ WebStorage. We plan to use this on an upcoming trip, uploading pictures along the way . . . and I think it will be great!

    After charging it for 8+ hours, I watched it run through its set-up and was thrilled when there was no noticeable noise from the unit. (See previous review.) Also, the 1015-PED was able to access our home wireless network without a hitch. I then took it to the local library to see how it did and again, there was no problem with access or response time. Only when I tried to its “Express Gate” (essentially a Windows bypass meant to boot up frequently used apps very quickly without starting the Windows 7 OS) did I notice that I could not access the internet. It seems it was looking for a LAN instead of my home network — so I need to check that function out more. I rebooted with Windows using the top right power button, turned the LAN off and it found my network again.

    I really like the keyboard, the variety of function keys, the large touch pad and the ability to scroll up or down using two fingers (a la Macs). The screen has great color and is easy to see inside and out. Frankly, I think the response time beats my 4-year old MacBook Pro on my home Linksys Wireless-N Router. I have not installed the second GB of DDR3 RAM — but I think I’ll wait until I see a successful review on that one.

    All in all, I think this is a terrific little netbook and am thrilled with the purchase!

    This is a great little travel/starter notebook.

    Pros: VERY lightweight & portability, good screen visibility, ease of use.

    Cons: After several months of use, the battery life decreases, linux can be tricky for someone used to Windows or MacOS.

    I have had mine since roughly 05/2008, and will continue to use it for some time. I will be seeking a better replacement battery, though.

    HP Mini 110-1020NR 10.1-Inch Netbook – Up to 3.5 Hours of Battery Life

    I got this netbook about 8 months ago when the hinges on my Toshiba laptop broke. I’m cheap, so instead of buying a new laptop, I ducktaped the thing back together and use it as a desktop. This HP mini is now the thing I take with me everywhere I go and I.love.it. I’m constantly shuffling from work to home to and this little sucker gets thrown in my purse for the journey. It’s amazingly light weight and I never know its there…which can be dangerous. This poor guy has been banged, dropped, kicked around and all sorts of stuff and he still looks great. The keys are huge compared to other netbooks and I’ve successfully written many pages worth of documents without cramping up. Best 0 bucks I’ve ever spent.

    Just a reminder – this is a netbook, not a laptop and while it’ll hold a LOT of stuff, I carry around a small mini external harddrive just in case. Also, there is no cd drive so whenever I need to install something, I pop the disc into my ducttaped desklaptop and move information over wirelessely. No need to buy the optional cd extension if you already have another computer at home.

    I am very pleased with this netbook. I carry it everywhere…to play games, to get email, to download, to upload photos from my camera. It has more ports than anyone could use. I especially like the SD port as it makes it easy to upload my photos.

    I will admit that I do have trouble typing emails as I have been accustomed to the ergonomic keyboard. But I do muddle along quite well and don’t worry about my typos.

    I just got this bad boy and it is exactly as described. Do you own research (google/youtube) and find out what other people are saying. I chose this over the MacBook Pro for price, performance, and Ferrari-theme design. If you are a car enthusiast, this is a great addition to your memorabilia.

    Don’t let the Netbook name fool you. This is a fast and portable NOTEBOOK. With a dual-core processor on tap and pretty awesome graphic card, gaming/HD streaming not going to be an issue. Build quality is top notch and the red color is rich and metallic (like the hood of a Ferrari).

    Once XGP adapters are released, you could hook this up to multiple HDMI monitors.

    Cons:
    No Bluetooth connectivity and no HDMI port (Acer should have included these features consider the expensive price)
    No backlit keyboard (nice to have but would probably increase the price)
